DAILY…TOOTH SENSITIVITY:
Tooth sensitivity is one of the most common problems in the field of dentistry, with which people are more familiar and with which they learn to live in their daily routine. We have to be aware that aggressive brushing, like any trauma, generates damage, and the gums are a very sensitive tissue that we habituate to a position that is not the normal one, creating retractions and leaving exposed parts of the tooth more sensitive to changes. As well as the use of brushes with extremely hard bristles or on the contrary very soft and even the use of electric toothbrushes and the movement we make when using them, they are electric for a reason, it is not necessary for us to make movement. If you notice that you do not use a correct brushing technique, consult with specialists and we will advise you to achieve a more professional and healthy brushing and cleaning.
- Very citric and acidic foods: Many of the fruits we take such as strawberries, pineapple that in so many diets appears, lemons or carbonated beverages that accompany our diet, are harmful to tooth enamel, like everything else, in excess. Some of these make us feel a sensation of sensitivity after ingesting them, and it is nothing more than a series of chemical reactions due to the acid they contain. Even their ingestion makes the moment of brushing more harmful, so it is advisable to rinse with water and then proceed with toothbrushing.
- Bruxism / stress: Stress in our daily life as we commented in previous articles, is one of the main enemies to fight to preserve our oral and periotal tissues in perfect condition. So if you notice that you wake up with a loaded jaw, some kind of joint clicking, limitations of opening or severe neck pain, consult your doctor, it is more common than we think and in good hands has a simple solution.
- Gum disease (gingivitis and periodontitis)Everyone is more than familiar with the famous “bleeding gums” or the dreaded “pyorrhea”, both are factors of great weight on tooth sensitivity. The gum recession, the accumulation of infragingival tartar resulting from both pathologies should be treated in their clinics, tartrectomy and periodontal treatments, we must not forget that they are basic treatments that make our oral health is optimal.
- Abrasive toothpastes and toothpastes: Nowadays, we are increasingly concerned and obsessed with whitening our teeth, and we do not stop to read the prospectuses or backs of the pastes that we buy daily, mistake. For its composition, agents such as silica, aluminum oxide, calcium carbonate, among others, are used, which give a sensation of greater hygiene and cleanliness, but in their absence, the union of several of the above mentioned in excess, make this paste to be considered “aggressive” and more harmful than healthy.
